Hey there….

I wanted to get this update in before the big birthday book is released this week on the 14th…

Kelsey sent over this press release.

The Lodge’s Emily Lazar & Joe LaPorta Master “Massive” New Foo Fighters Album!

(New York, NY)- January 5th, 2011- 2011 is here and the champagne is still flowing as The Foo Fighters toast the completion of their 7th studio album at The Lodge. The band attended the session with legendary producer Butch Vig & engineer James Brown.

Co-mastered by Chief Mastering Engineer Emily Lazar and Mastering Engineer Joe LaPorta, the new album is heralded as their heaviest album to date. It also marks Grohl and Vig’s first reunion since Nirvana’s “Nevermind” in 1991. Recorded & mixed entirely to analog tape, the album features guest appearances by Bob Mould of Hüsker Dü and reunites Grohl with the remaining Nirvana band members Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear. In an interview with MTV news posted online yesterday, Dave Grohl explained, “There’s 11 songs and, front to back, there’s not one sleepy ballad. The fact that we did it without any computers, it was just really simple. It just sounds massive.”

Dave Grohl tweeted & revealed to his fans a 10 sec video snippet of the track “White Limo” (click here)– and check out The Lodge’s oscilloscope rockin’ out to the onslaught!

NME, Billboard and Spin magazines also posted articles announcing the completion of the album.

Foo Fighters at The Lodge

Glynis sent over this link so that you can vote for Dave for the 2011 MD Readers poll/ Modern Drummer Contest. Thanks, Glynis!

If you have any sort of video-making skills, perhaps you’ll be the Director of the next Foo Fighters music video

Only a few more days until Dave’s 42nd birthday (January 14) and you can still contribute to his annual Birthday Book. I’m extending the deadline to Thursday, January 13 at 6pm Eastern Time (that’s New York City’s time zone.)

The book looks great this year thanks to all of your contributions and wishes. I can’t wait to reveal it all to you and to Dave. Please take the time to send in even just a note to say Happy Birthday. I’m kind of big on celebrating people’s birthdays and believe everyone should just have an extra special day, so be a part of it, would ya?
