As far as updates and this website go, August 2009 is going down in Internet history. I can’t believe I have an update almost every day.

Rolling Stone magazine Issue 1086 dated September 3, 2009 with *sigh* The Beatles on the cover has the following blurb and photo with Dave & his dad. (Click to enlarge):

Mr. Grohl looks like a pretty cool dude. The older one, not the younger one – although he seems pretty cool himself.

UPDATE

Todd Bennett just sent over these photos taken today at the dedication of the alley way to Dave in Warren, Ohio. Congrats, Dave! These are great photos, Todd – thanks for sharing!

Dave Grohl, drummer for Nirvana and lead singer of the Foo Fighters, was honored in his hometown of Warren Ohio on Saturday August 1st, 2009. Capping off a weeklong music festival featuring local bands in honor of Grohl’s achievement of having an alley named after him, the singer was gracious enough to attend the event. About 2,000 fans gathered in the small town square for his arrival. He came on stage and played with the band Love Turns Hate performing one of their songs before bridging into Rock and Roll by Led Zeppelin. After those two songs, he was given the key to the city and performed three of his songs acoustically including Times Like These, Hero, and Everlong. After unveiling the street sign, he went backstage with his family that still lives in the area and then came out and met his fans to sign autographs and take photos.

Everything Sonic – featuring Dave Grohl

Photos by Danny Clinch

Family man, father, Foo Fighter front man, Dave Grohl is taking time off from the road this summer to focus on a newborn, recording new songs to be included on the forthcoming Foo Fighters Greatest Hits & probably a few other things. Doesn’t sound like much of a break and yet he still finds the road in the form of two, or as you’ll see, three wheels. Dave recently took an afternoon to talk about his riding history and its influence on his life & music.

Check out these photos taken by Clinch during the filming of Everything Sonic.

The town of Warren, Ohio (birth place of Dave!) will be celebrating “Music is Art” on August 1 with a dedication to Dave. From the website:

The Main Street Warren Organization, is excited to announce they will be hosting a weeklong music festival on Courthouse Square in downtown Warren entitled, “Music is Art.” The focus of this festival is to pay tribute to Warren native, and Grammy Award winning artist David Grohl. At the time of Grohl’s birth and during the early years of his life, his parents lived in a home on Perkinswood Avenue on Warren’s eastside. Grohl still has family members that reside in the greater Warren area. The highlight of the festival will be the dedication ceremony of the newly named “David Grohl Alley,” that will take place at the finale of the festival on Saturday August 1st at 5:45pm. Grohl has been invited to attend the dedication where the alley sign bearing his name will be unveiled.

The “Music is Art” festival, which is free to the public, will kick off Sunday, July 26th, and run through the dedication ceremony. Each day the festival will feature a different genre of music including gospel, jazz, country, blues, and rock. The festival will feature over 200 local artists comprised of choirs, bands, soloists, duos and instrumentalists. For a complete listing of acts and their performance times, as well as additional information regarding the event log onto www.mainstreetwarren.org, or contact Main Street Warren Promotion Chairperson Jennifer Campbell at 330.219.9819.

Main Street Warren has been working in conjunction with The Trumbull Art Gallery to make “David Grohl Alley” itself a true “work of art.” The alley, located between the downtown parking deck and the buildings that face East Market Street, will be painted to reflect the theme of the festival, “Music is Art.” Several local artists are also painting individual murals that will be hung in the alley “gallery style” to pay tribute to Grohl’s musical career.

Grohl, was a member of the nineties grunge band Nirvana, and following the passing of Kurt Cobain in 1994, he formed and became the front man for the wildly popular band The Foo Fighters. In addition to leading the Foo Fighters, Grohl has been involved in several other musical projects including Queens of the Stone Age, the heavy metal band Probot, and has performed session work with Killing Joke, Tenancious D, Nine Inch Nails, and most recently, The Prodigy. Earlier this year he played drums for Sir Paul McCartney at The Grammy Awards. He has achieved worldwide acclaim in the industry as a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, playing the drums, guitar, piano and bass.
Here are a few photos of the alley: (click to enlarge):

If you plan on attending, please send along your photos and I’ll host them here for you as well as anything you would like to write up about the festival.
