I’m going to tell you a really quick story about me. If you feel the need to look at nice pictures, fast forward to that below.
When I was a little girl, I grew up in conservative west Texas. I was always aware that I didn’t feel like I fit in because I wasn’t into rodeos or cowboys or shit like that. So when MTV came along, it was a life saver. (This was back when they played music.)
Before MTV, I was doing my little girl thing – going to Brownies or Girl Scout meetings. ( I have a hilarious story about trying to start a campfire, but that’s for another time.)
I remember being at Girl Scout camp one summer and we stayed in a section of the camp called ‘Plateau’ and there was what some people would call a ‘bathroom’ there. It was maybe 2 shower stalls and 4 toilet stalls. The “sink” was actually located outside of the bathroom and really – it was a trough. Very primitive. Each toilet stall had a name and a wood-burned sign to designate, “John, Paul, George, or Ringo”. No one ever went into the Ringo stall because there were daddy long legs spiders in there and ..just no.
That was the first time I ever remember hearing John, Paul, George, and Ringo. I didn’t realize that they were Beatles. My mom was an Elvis fan. My dad’s favorite group was The Animals.
Flash Forward to 1983 and Paul McCartney’s “Pipes of Peace” is released and I buy it because freakin’ Michael Jackson does the ‘Say Say Say’ song with him and hey – Paul is kind of cute in that video they made. My grandpa’s name is Paul so I just like this guy, McCartney. See kids, I’m not putting two and two together at this point.
My dad gives me an advance on my allowance and I buy the cassette tape and I get home and I’m listening to it on my “jambox” and I’m reading all of the liner notes in the fold out insert. Somewhere in there it talks about Paul being a Beatle. I remember thinking ‘WTF? Seriously?’ “Mom, Paul McCartney was a Beatle??” “Duh!”
I’ve loved Paul McCartney ever since. So imagine how happy it makes me to see him accepting a Grammy Award with Dave. I’m not big on Awards shows – I rarely watch them, but I’m happy when someone I really like wins.
So – Grammy Awards…. how about some Red Carpet Photos to start off …..
Now, if you have not heard, Dave won a couple of Grammy Awards last night:
