Keeping up with Dave…

Oct 07

You know, I have hugged this man….countless times.  How come I didn’t think of this?  I didn’t know this was an option.  I’m really kicking myself right now….

Dave joined Chelsea Handler on a Sirius XM radio show to promote her upcoming Netflix show “Uganda Be Kidding Me”.  This interview will play on Thursday, October 9 – here’s a link to read up more about the interview and here are a few more snapshots:

Dave along with 27 other artists is a part of “The Impossible Orchestra” to launch the all new BBC music season and have covered the Beach Boys’ ‘God Only Knows’.  You can watch here and read more about it here:

I meant to include this in my update yesterday. Dave will be in the new documentary Salad Days: A Decade Of Punk In Washington, DC (1980-90) which is a film about the Washington, DC hardcore scene in the 1980s. I’m really looking forward to seeing this film.  Here’s a small clip featuring Dave in the film:

Speaking of documentaries: My friend, Jenni Matz, has finally completed her documentary “Rye Coalition: The Story of the Hard Luck Live” and she’s currently touring around the states with it and winning awards at every single film festival it’s picked to play at.  It’s really kind of awesome what she’s done.

If you’re not sure what I’m talking about, Rye Coalition is a band from Jersey City, New Jersey, and back around 2003, Dave Grohl produced their album, ‘Curses’.  This documentary follows the band’s life from beginning to end and includes quite a bit of footage of Dave as well.  I encourage you to see it for many reasons… A.) They’re an amazing band, B.) the documentary is really great,  C.) Dave, D.) Those guys are my friends/brothers and,  E.) Yours truly has a credit in the movie as well.  (!)  Check out the trailer below and then check out the screening dates and the website and try to go catch it if it’s playing in your town…and tell Jenni that Leecy sent you.

  • October 10 @ Graveface Records, Savannah, GA
  • October 12 @ New Jersey International Film Festival, New Brunswick, NJ
  • October 13 @ Fond Object, Nashville, TN

From Jenni Matz: I’ve had a lot of requests to screen the movie. This is pretty much a solo operation, so if you’d like to help me organize a screening, contact me at theryecoalition@gmail.com

May is our two year anniversary. Hard to believe, huh? I guess we’re entering the ‘terrible two’s’.

So I’ve been pimping Rye Coalition because A. I love those guys, B. They’re awesome, C. Their new album “Curses” is produced by Dave.

Here’s a little article from Revolver Magazine where the Rye Guys discuss working with Dave on their album.

I know it’s been kind of quiet around here. Hopefully things will pick up once Foo Fighters get back out on the road for the Acoustic Tour. Not to mention I have been busy moving the past couple of weeks. Talk with you all again soon.

Here’s what you need to do: Click on the cover art up there for the new Rye Coalition Album, “Curses”, and head over to Amazon.com and pre-order it. Not only will you get an album that kicks your ass; it’s produced by Dave Grohl and comes with a DVD of the making of the album. Official release date (here in the States at least) is April 18. Want a look at what some of the DVD contains? You can check it out HERE. If you’re lucky enough to see these guys out on the road like I was, you can pick up a copy of the album at the show.

(Thanks to Kelly for helping me get the images)

Kelly also fixed us up with some images from the Eagles of Death Metal Video that Dave appears in. You can check them out HERE. Also, Kelly has been working on completely transforming the website. It will happen, it’s just taken longer than we expected for various reasons. I think everyone will like it though once it’s up and running.

Why are you still here? Why haven’t you ordered the new Rye Coalition album yet? Get going!

Hey! I got to check out Taylor Hawkins & The Coattail Riders on Sat. in Lubbock, TX. If you’re interested in seeing some video from it, well, you have to be a member at our message board. There’s a big review, photos etc. I’m heading out tonight to the show here in Dallas so there will probably be more tomorrow!

I had a great time at the show.. got to meet up with some folks that hang out here online; got to talk for a while with the Rye Coalition boys, and got to speak with Taylor a bit. If he’s in your town, or city do yourself a favor and go see his show.. and then of course buy his album when it comes out March 21.

As I said, I got to speak with some of the guys in Rye Coalition. I spoke with their drummer, Dave Leto, and he told me to let you all know that when their album comes out on April 18, that not only should you pick it up because it just rocks (and it’s produced by Dave Grohl) but it also comes with a DVD that is loaded with all kinds of yummy Dave G. footage. To me, that’s just the icing on the cake because holy crap .. this band ROCKS. Mark it on your calendar.. pick this album up.. you won’t be disappointed!

Also, if you haven’t checked out their website, head over there and check out their photos that they just put up of them on the road in Europe with Foo Fighters.

Remember that Eagles of Death Metal video that Dave was going to appear in? You can check it out HERE at Yahoo Music.

I definitely feel as if I’m forgetting something, but I’m sure I’ll be back with more tomorrow after the Taylor show tonight. Catch you all later!

Rye Coalition is finally releasing that album. I was beginning to wonder, but it’s actually happening. Why is this important to you? Well, other than the fact that they’re just a great band, the album was produced by Dave Grohl. You remember him, right? Check out the article HERE from Filter Magazine (online). Chariots On Fire is the name of the album AND if you’re lucky enough to be over there in Europe, Rye Coalition will be opening for Foo Fighters at select shows. (Hello to Dave Leto.. haven’t talked with you in a while!). I had the opportunity to catch a show of theirs a while back and highly recommend you do the same if you have the chance.

Remember that this Thursday, January 12 is the deadline to get your Dave Birthday wishes in to me. Send them to Lisa@sweetparamania.com.

I might be in LA on business this coming up weekend and if so.. I might have to go check out that Chevy Metal show at Riverbottom Bar and Grill in Burbank. If any of you twits are there, and see a pink headed girlie.. please say hello to me. :-p
