Upgrade on the Birthday Book Contest

Dec 14

Hey there –

I received an e mail from Sean at DeCapo Press here in Boston and Sean found out about our Birthday Book / Contest for Dave and offered up a copy of the US edition of THIS IS A CALL: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF DAVE GROHL by Paul Brannigan.  Very generous of Sean & DaCapo Press so I’m including that into the prize package for best Birthday Book entry.

Here’s a little information on the book if you’re not familiar:

ABOUT THIS IS A CALL:

The first in-depth, definitive biography of Dave Grohl, drummer for the legendary band Nirvana and singer/songwriter for the Foo Fighters

This is a Call tells the epic story of Dave Grohl’s life and singular career, a journey that includes such cornerstone bands as Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, and Them Crooked Vultures. Based on ten years of original, exclusive interviews with the man himself and conversations with a legion of musical associates like Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme, DC punk legend Ian MacKaye, and Nevermind producer Butch Vig, this—at last—is Grohl’s story in full. He speaks candidly about Kurt Cobain, the arguments that nearly tore Nirvana apart, the feuds that threatened to derail the Foo Fighters’ global success, and the dark days that almost caused him to quit music for good.

Dave Grohl has emerged as one of the most recognizable and respected musicians in the world and the last true hero to emerge from the American underground. This is a Call vividly recounts his incredible, one-of-a-kind rock ’n’ roll journey.

Paul Brannigan has a professional relationship with Dave Grohl stretching back almost 15 years. Former editor of Kerrang! Magazine, he is a respected authority on the punk scene in Washington, DC, where Dave Grohl cut his teeth. Brannigan’s writing has appeared in Mojo and Q magazines. He lives in London.

“[A] well-researched bio…A fascinating read, This Is a Call doesn’t skimp on entertaining anecdotes, juicy gossip or evidence of Grohl’s immense songwriting talent.”—Alternative Press

The leader of the Foo Fighters comes off as music’s most affable man, but it turns out there’s more turmoil in the ranks than it seems.”—New York Daily News

“Quite an achievement…Brannigan draws on his own interviews with Grohl, among others, to plot a compelling journey…A big-hearted, fascinating read.”—Q magazine

And because I’m feeling extra generous here at Christmas time, I’m also including a copy of ‘Wasting Light’ in Vinyl.  So read about the Birthday Book rules – design something lovely for Dave’s Birthday, and win the prize mentioned in the ‘rules’ and add a copy of  ‘THIS IS A CALL: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF DAVE GROHL by Paul Brannigan’ as well as Wasting Light on vinyl.  Rad, right?
