D.C. & Off Camera Magazine Contest

Nov 05

I meant to get my photos from the Black Cat / Washington D.C. show up sooner, but I got back home and my job wanted me to …work.  Which is weird. *eye roll* *shrug*

I want to say that I am one of the luckiest people in the world in regards to this band.  I know I am.  I do not take lightly the opportunities that have been given to me.  I don’t take it for granted.  Someone once said to me, “I’m sure it’s no big deal to you now….you’ve met Dave so many times that I’m sure you’re ‘over’ it.”

Never.  I’ll never be over it.  I love them so much.  I want to be at all of the shows. I get wicked excited at the thought of seeing Foo Fighters or listening to new music by them or seeing a show. It will never get old for me.  I just want you to know that I don’t take this for granted. I’ve been a fan from the very beginning and here we are 20 yrs later and I’m just as excited as I was when I heard the first album. Ok, probably even more excited now.

So I am in debt to my friend Risa, who invited me to be her plus 1 after she won a contest to see Foo Fighters at the Black Cat in Washington, D.C.  I can’t thank her enough because I really wanted to go.  I want to go to all 8 cities / shows, but I’m lucky & thankful that I got to go to one and I realize how damn lucky I am. Thank you, Risa. And thank you, Jill as well for getting us the opportunity to even enter a contest!

I scored my first Set List ever at this show!  What a great time. Extra special thanks to the girl behind me that hit me in the back of the head with her whiskey glass and then poured the whiskey over my head because I wouldn’t move so that she could get closer to Taylor.  Gee, you’re swell.

Speaking of Taylor.  Dude… white shorts with a ton of blazing lights shining behind you…. a few of us in the front row are now acquainted with you in ways we never thought possible before. Just sayin’.  Don’t be mad at me.

So here are a few of the photos that I took.  Enjoy! (Credit to Donna for the group pic of me, Brad, Emily & Risa).

I know, I was practically stepping on Dave’s feet.  I thought we would be at the back of the room because we didn’t even get to the venue until around 4:30 or 5pm that afternoon. I was convinced that the line would be down the street and around the corner, but there were only about 10 people in front of us and once inside, everyone either went to the bar or the merch table. So hello, front row center – it’s nice to see you again.

It was nice to see some old, familiar faces and meet some new ones as well.  I’m curious to see who will be going to Wrigley in Chicago in August (me!) as well as RFK / DC in July (Me, I hope…c’mon, ticket gods!) We should all meet up the nights before and hang out.

If you look back to a few updates ago, I mentioned that “Off Camera” magazine had a special Dave Grohl edition and the 50 signed copies that they had sold out quickly.  There are still some unsigned copies available : HERE and I’ve heard that shipping to the U.K. was very cheap so you might want to check it out…..

…..or, you know…. I ended up with an extra signed copy thanks to Off Camera and so we’re going to have a little contest and I’ll send a signed copy to the winner.

I was trying to think of a contest idea, and I’m not too creative lately so here’s what we’re going to do.  I’m in the mood to laugh at Dave’s expense so I want you to write the funniest ‘How I met Dave Grohl’ story – even if you haven’t met him.  Make it funny, outrageous and entertaining and remember that I’m probably going to embarrass you and post it here.  The funniest will win and I’ll pass this little gem on to you.  Try to keep your stories somewhat short (I don’t need a book) and e mail them to me at lisa@sweetparamania.com

Contest ends on Sunday, November 9 at 6pm eastern (New York, NY time). Good luck!

EDIT to say please submit your entries in English. I’m a lazy American and I really dislike Google Translate.

I have Wrigley tix and fingers are crossed for a ‘hometown’ DC show. Love the meetup idea!

Aaah sounds like you had a great time! I had a similar run in with someone at the House of Vans show in London who wanted to get closer to see Taylor. Security wanted to kick her out but she flashed her VIP pass and they said they had to let her stay in the front 🙁
    Right, time to get writing…
